Hong Kong in a (uni break) nutshell…

Our first time to this ex pat playground and what a beautiful hustle it was. Staying in Causeway Bay, we had Times Square at our doorstep, Central up the road and the fabric-lovers dream, Kowloon across the water. While the main purpose of the five day trip was predominantly for fabric sourcing and trim shopping, we snuck as many dumplings and trips to Comme Des Garçon as we could in between- naturally.

I’m in the middle of a long-time dream turned reality, creating a swimwear collection where vintage styles meet modern fabrications and quirky prints meet the more conservative blacks. There’s definitely room for most, all sizes and shapes are considered and we don’t exclude based on colour ways (struggling to cut down the 98 pantones to 8 has proved harder than a law essay ever did) helppp!

On the Hong Kong front we explored Central nearly every morning, and while the city doesn’t necessarily accommodate for us early risers, we found a hidden gem in Mid-Levels, The Cupping Room. Providing us with the large long black and iced-Mocha for Ching, morning emails were done and fabric shopping was on the cards. Kowloon is home to hundreds of textile vendors who sprawl their goodies out of their hole-in-the-wall shopfronts, as trims dangle and buttons fill the walls, it was textile heaven. We ripped samples and took swatches, bringing the short listed lucky favourites back to the drawing board for a final edit before production. Stay Tuned.

In the meantime, feast your eyes on our limits snaps, (albeit on an iPhone) the beauty of the city did it justice. Here’s to the the best dumplings that put Mr. Wong to shame and the beautiful seamstresses who have joined our Hatrik Swim team. We can't wait to show you what we've created!
